Mrs. Bechtold  I have been teaching second grade at St. Edward for 34 years. I am from Nashville. I have a BS from Western Kentucky University. I have been married for 33 years and have one daughter, Beverly. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, gardening, traveling and watching sports.

Karen Lasich - I am very glad to be a part of the St. Edward Community.  I grew up in Trenton, New Jersey where I attended St. Hedwig Catholic Grammar School.  I was graduated from Trenton Central High School and Alliance College.  My senior year of college was spent as an exchange student at the Jagiellonian University (University of Krakow) in Krakow, Poland.  While there, I traveled extensively through Europe including the Soviet Union.  I hold a Master of Arts in Teaching from the College of New Jersey and am certified to teach in Tennessee and New Jersey.  My experience includes three years of Kindergarten, one year of third grade, one year of Pre-K, and this is my fifth year in Second Grade at St. Edward.    I worked for General Motors Corporation for 28 years (12 of which were at Saturn Corporation) where I held several training positions, one of which was the training administrator for Sales, Service, and Marketing at Saturn.

My family includes my husband, Jim, my two daughters Patti and Ana, son-in-law John, and my two grandsons Joshua and Aiden.  I am very active with my family especially with my grandsons Josh and Aiden who are my buddies, pals, and travel partners.

Over the years I have continued to enhance my education through courses, workshops, and reading about the latest practices in education, learning how to learn, how the brain works, creativity - actually anything that will assist me in helping to make learning challenging, interesting, and fun.   I am a teacher because I love to learn.  And, as a result, I want to share that love and hopefully instill this love of learning in the students.

It is my purpose in teaching to serve as a positive role model to the students, to establish a nurturing environment, to promote self-esteem, and to enable them to grow tapping into their inner genius.  And, I want the children to know that I have high expectations of them, confidence in their ability to achieve, and that I will do all that I can to help them to be comfortable in the learning environment.
