Outdoor Communion Service

Show and Tell

Using the laptops for the first time.

Mrs. Minchey got to meet her idol, the guru of children's literature, Judy Freeman, at a conference in November.

We saw the play, The Wizard of Oz, at St. Cecelia, starring St. Edward (and 3M) alum, Catherine Louk as the Cowardly Lion.

Life in 3M - for our parents, prospective parents and students, or

family and friends interested in what we do in third grade

- click on any photo to enlarge it.

First thing in the morning, we unpack our backpacks, turn in homework, and get ready for a great day.

At 8:00, the whole school prays together.

After the opening prayer, we pledge allegiance to the American flag.

We go to church twice a week - once for a communion service and once for Mass.

In religion class, we do "prayer circles." We pray for any intentions that we have for ourselves and others.

Four mornings a week, Mrs. Minchey meets with small groups for guided reading and writing.

Each day we take a math quiz. Monday - addition, Tuesday thru Thursday - multiplication, Friday - subtraction.

Math class - using beans and cups to learn about division.

We use the Ways to Success math program that accompanies our textbook to enhance our understanding in math.

Each morning we have DEAR (drop everything and read) time.

A favorite spot for silent reading time.

In social studies, we learn about pioneers, communities, and different cultures. This photo shows our class at a special Native Americans program.

Learning the locations of the 50 states is a year-long 3rd grade goal. We practice in different ways. One of our favorites is using our velcro map.

We eat in the cafeteria each day at 11:20. These are two of our cafeteria ladies.

Eating lunch in the cafeteria.

We have 30 minutes of recess each day.

Playing basketball at recess.

When it's too rainy to go outside for recess, we stay indoors and play with Legos and games, and play on the computers.

Playing Life during indoor recess.

After recess, we take a drink and bathroom break.

Monday through Thursday afternoons, we do centers to reinforce skills we're learning in class.

We use our computers during centers for typing practice, viewing educational websites, and the Ways to Success math program.

Students at the listening center.

After completing a story at the listening center, we throw a "comprehension" ball to review what we read.

Playing "Tic Tac Times" for centers.

We end our day with read aloud time, math problem of the day, and multiplication games like "Around the World" and "Wheel of Despair."

Before the bell rings in the afternoons, we can spend our "good behavior stamps" to share special news or items with the class.

Our school day closes with all-school prayer.

3rd graders who attend our after-school program go to study hall in our classroom. We work on our homework, and when everyone finishes, we play.

Twice a week we go to PE class with Mr. Nute.

We go to art once a week for 50 minutes. We do lots of fun projects - like making balloon animals.

Our class in music.

Our media specialist, Mrs. Kimbler, teaches us technology and library skills once a week.

When we go to the media center as a class, we use the computers to practice typing, do research, and complete projects.

We have pre-k buddies. We meet with them every two weeks for fun activites. This photo is of our 2006 Christmas party with our buddies.

An annual third grade field trip is Honeysuckle Hill Farm and Orchard.

On our way to a field trip to the Children's Theater.

This is our principal, Dr. Baumgartner. She encourages us to do our best each day.

Our associate principal, Dr. Niyah Griffin.

This is our school secretary, Mrs. Wilkinson. She makes wonderful homemade bread!

Mrs. Callis is our school nurse. She helps us when we're sick or hurt.

This is our classroom. We meet at the table for our guided reading and writing groups.

These are our classroom computers.
