Catholic Schools Week -

1.     We still need volunteers for our classroom to help with Friday’s scavenger hunt.

2.     For Catholic Schools Week, we are also participating in a service project called Kemi’s Friends.  We are collecting children’s clothes to go to Africa for street children.  Used spring, summer, and fall clothes in good condition are being accepted.

3.     The theme for Catholic School Week this year is “Faith, Academics, Service.”  These concepts have their roots in the home.  Please spend a few minutes each night this week talking about your family’s faith.  Below are some discussion questions to help get the conversation started.

Monday – Discuss celebrations of the sacraments that your family has celebrated – baptisms, weddings.  Has anyone in your family taken the vow of holy orders?  Has anyone had the anointing of the sick?

Tuesday – Talk about a time that God really spoke to you.  Did you hear God’s voice through another person, in nature, directly?

Wednesday – Is there a special Bible verse or passage that is special to your family?  Why is it special?  Consider writing it down to bring to school to put on your faith poster.

In school on Thursday, each third grader will be asked to put together poster about their faith.   Hopefully, your discussions at home will help them to make a truly special representation of the faith that they’ve learned at home and at St. Edward.  You may send in special items for your child to have for Thursday to add to their poster – photographs of your family, a Bible verse, special markers they like to use, etc.  You do not have to send anything in unless you want to.  There will be supplies in the class.

bulletParents - No papers (from practice tests, etc.) need to be turned in.  These are suggested activities to help your child develop good study habits - no penalties will be given for not completing the work.

bulletA suggested amount of time for working on each activity is listed in parentheses.  Some activities will take less time than suggested.  Some will not be completed in the suggested amount of time.  It’s better to stop when time is up, even if you’re not done.  Frustration will set in if too much time is spent on any one activity.

bulletYou can also do different activities other than those listed to study.  These are just guidelines and ideas to help build good study habits.  Good study habits are one of the very most important things your child needs to learn!

bulletParents can sign each box for activities completed at home or in the “Estimated Total Study Time” box if all activities were completed for the night.  Each week a child has at least three nights’ studying completed, they will get a punch on their study card.  Ten punches can be traded in for an out of uniform pass.
