Art Classes

The focus for this year in Art is two dimensional
design
fundamentals as well as the elements and principles that pertain
to the media we use for our projects. Artists and art work from many different
periods will also be covered.
All students in grades K - 8
meet for art in the Art Lab once a week as well as having art
activities within their other classes. Pre-K will meet in their class room with Mrs. Ball.
The art lab will utilize
demonstrations, lectures, videos, handouts, class discussion,
and computer access to motivate students in art projects
around this year's curriculum of 2-D design.
Art students are expected to come to
class prepared to listen, create, and treat everyone with
kindness. Most materials will be provided.
Occasionally students may be asked to bring items from home
(cardboard tubes, milk cartons, etc.). Students may also be
asked to come with ideas, plans, of sketches for the following
week's project. Failure to prepare may put students at a
disadvantage.
All art students are expected to
follow the rules set by the school as well as those in the art
room. Students should be kind to others, follow
directions, listen while the teacher is talking, wait for
instructions, keep hands to themselves, stay seated, take care
of materials, and clean after themselves. Anyone who
chooses not to follow these rules will have points deducted from
their class conduct grade. Continued disruption may result in
seat isolation, removal from class, or demerits in the upper
grades.
Grading in art consists of daily
participation grades. Each student starts with 100% for
the day, however, points will be deducted for improper use of
tools and materials, lack of effort and failure to listen
to and follow instructions. A students art work is not
graded or judged against others in the class.
It is hoped that all students will
take methods and creative ideas learned in art and apply them to
all aspects of their lives. Parents are encouraged to
provide their children with art materials for use at home as an
extension of the creative process that can be used in other
school projects and personal enjoyment.
