Bereavement Ministry
The mission of the Bereavement Ministry is to provide a luncheon or dinner to grieving families after the death of a loved one.
When a person passes away the family they leave behind are grief stricken. While flooded with emotions, they still have the task of making necessary arrangements. They will have many decisions to make and people to contact.
What the Bereavement Ministry is trying to do is alleviate some of the family's stress. After a funeral it is customary for family and friends of the deceased to come together. They usually share a meal to celebrate the life of their loved one. We can provide that for them.
Our ministry begins when the church office calls us with a family in need. A call to the school /Coleman Park is next, to find out what facility is available. When school is in session we will be limited tin space however, Coleman Park Recreation Center has a meeting room with a kitchen we can use if available.
A calling tree/email will be set up to find out who in the ministry is available to cook set up, serve or clean up. You will not be expected to participate every time we have a bereavernent meal, unless you want to.
This service is only offered to St. Edward parishioners. It is free of charge. Donations from the families are accepted and will be put into an account for further meals.
