PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM (PREP)

PREP is a Catholic religious education and faith formation program for any youth grades Pre-K (four years old) – 6th grade.  Classes meet Sunday mornings from 9:15am-10:15am. Students are introduced to Jesus and His saving love for humanity through Catholic doctrine, prayers, Saints, Bible stories and Sacramental preparation. The PREP program follows the same curriculum provided by St. Edward Catholic School.

OUR STAFF

The Director of Religious Education (DRE) is Mrs. Angela Peach who is a certified catechist through the Aquinas Catechetical Program of the Diocese of Nashville and holds a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from Saint Meinrad School of Theology and Seminary.

The St. Edward PREP staff is a group of dedicated background checked volunteers who genuinely love working with children and sharing God’s Word and love on Sunday mornings. Each classroom has an average of 2 teachers.  For anyone who is interested in teaching or being an assistant in our program, please do not hesitate to contact the Religious Education office.  We need your help for the program to run smoothly!

OUR PARENTS

“Parents are the first and foremost teachers of their children. They teach informally but powerfully by example and instruction. They communicate values and attitudes by showing love for Christ and His church and for each other, by reverently receiving the Eucharist and living in its spirit, and by fostering justice and love in all their relationships. It is the parents’ nurturing of faith in their children that show them the richness and beauty of lived faith.” (Sharing the Light of Faith #212)

SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION

2nd grade religion classes prepare children for their First Eucharist and Reconciliation. Children are required to attend these classes in order to be readily prepared for receiving the Sacraments. This has always been a special time for children and their families, bringing much excitement as they learn their prayers and become spiritually aware.  Students in grades 3-6 who need to prepare for Sacraments of Baptism and/or 1st Holy Communion will be formed in their respective grade level classrooms and join with the 2nd Grade for 1st Holy Communion in the spring.  These students also need to attend all the PREP classes throughout the school year.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation is a two year program in the 7th and 8th grade.   More information can be found under Youth Group Ministry.
