For homework students should read the article entitled "Body Rituals of the Nacirema" that was distributed in class. Using complete sentences answer the questions beginning on page 3. For homework students should use a dictionary to write down the definitions of the vocabulary words listed in the article entitled "Body Rituals of the Nacirema". If a word or phrase has more than one meaning, please be sure to use a meaning that is appropriate to the context of the article. Week of 16 January 2012 8th Grade History Exam: Chapter 7: Tuesday, 17 January. 8th Grade Religion Each 8th grade student must submit a typed 5-paragraph essay addressing the following topic: What a Catholic school education has meant to me. Essays should address the virtues of faith and service as well as academics offering well-expressed insight into how the student was prepared to meet the challenges of high school and adulthood. Each student should be sure to Spell words correctly; Write in complete sentences; and Use correct punctuation, grammar and syntax. 1. Essays should have a clear beginning, middle and ending. They should be well organized. 2. Paragraphs should “flow”. They should be well constructed, in the student’s own words and follow a logical sequence from one topic to the next. 3. Papers must be typed neatly on 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper and in the following format: a) Page Heading Format: All essays should have a heading at the beginning of the document that has: Student Name and Class: left justified. Title: Centered at the top of the page one line below student name and class. NOTE! Page Heading is SINGLE SPACED! b) Report Body Format Font: Times New Roman, Verdana, Comic Sans (or similar) Font Size: 12 Points Margins: 1 inch Spacing: Double Length: Essays should be at least 1 page, but long enough to make a good argument. c) Subsequent Pages. If more than one page is submitted be sure to include the heading on each page. Page numbers should be centered on the bottom of each page. 4. DO NOT PLAGIARIZE!! Every written assignment must be in the student’s own words as much as possible. DO NOT COPY FROM ANY SOURCE WORD FOR WORD.
Due Date: 20 January 7th Grade Geography We will be exploring the continent of Asia. Students were given a Workbook on Asia from which we will spend time learning how to highlight and summarize information from a printed source. There are assignments and a project listed in the workbook that make up the bulk of this unit. Explain how early political parties emerged 5. Compare the political views of the Republicans and Federalists 6. Discuss the conflicts with Native Americans in the Northwest Territory 7. Summarize Washington's accomplishments as President. 8. Describe the results of the French Revolution and the reaction of the Americans to it. 9. Describe the main provisions of the Alien and Sedition Acts 10. Discuss the XYZ Affair and the reaction of the Americans to it. 11. Explain the concept and controversy of 'state's rights' 12. Describe the political views of major groups along the 'political spectrum' (communists, socialists, democrats, republicans, libertarians, fascists). In class we will be reading an article about different kinds of newspapers. Students will be able to identify parts of a news paper and explain their role in our democracy.
