Welcome!

Personal Mission Statement

My focus is to make Spanish fun so that my students want to

pursue studying this language well beyond my tenure

with them.  I am committed to: knowing my students as

individuals, encouraging students by finding something

right in what they do, preparing lessons that relate to my

students’ lives, and reflecting and changing a lesson if

learning is not taking place.

                                                                                     Grading

The Spanish grading system is based on:

          Tests (pre-test/tests)
          Homework (when given)
          Projects
Class work */ Pronunciation (effort) and Games
Each grade is based on 100 points – they are all equally important!
          Grades

As a teacher I reserve the right to lower a class work grade if:
         ·
A student does not get back on task after being redirected (minus 5 points)
         ·
A student (s) talk about an unrelated class work topic (minus 5 points)
         ·
A student upsets the flow of the class by being disruptive (minus 5 points)

Parents will be contacted if their child falls below a numeric average grade of 77.
I anticipate that all students are responsible and will get any work, with a due date,
         in on time!

Classroom Rules, Junior High Discipline Plan, and Consequences

 Spanish Class Rules

  1. Show reverent behavior during prayers.
  2. Show your respect through your actions and words.
  3. Come to class prepared and ready to learn
  4. Enter the class quietly and go to assigned seats.
  5. Be on time and in uniform upon entering the classroom.
  6. Keep hands, feet, objects and unkind words to yourself.
  7. In the event that the teacher needs to be out of the class room for any reason

Students are to remain in their seats quietly working on the current task.

Spanish is an academic class and should be treated as such.  When rules are broken
in Spanish class the disciplinary action is the same as that in core academic classes at
St. Edwards.

While I do not anticipate any discipline problems, if some should arise I will abide by the Junior High School Discipline Plan at St Edwards School.  This Plan is handled with a points system, a discipline worksheet, and detention.  An explanation of each section can be found in it’s entirety on pages 25-27 of the 2010-2011 Handbook.  These pages also cover types of infractions your child could loose points over and consequences that may occur if wrong choices are made.  Serious Disciplinary Action Clauses are also clearly stated.

As mentioned above I do not expect nor anticipate any classroom problems, if however any do occur I will follow the St. Edward School Discipline Plan for the 5th -8th grades.

                                                               Note to Parent/guardian

I am passionate about teaching Spanish. I am thrilled when parents are also are interested in their children’s school life.  Students will focus on many skills.  They will build on their previously learned vocabulary which will help refine their Spanish Fluency.   Your child will be given homework.  Parents can help me by making sure homework is being done.
I am honored to be teaching Spanish at St. Edward School.  If you have any concerns about your child; do not hesitate to call me at school.  I work on Mondays and Fridays and will return your call as soon as I am able.  I am looking forward to a great academic year!

 Peace,
