Youth Group Minister
Karen Courtney grew up in the Antioch area of Nashville, TN and attended St. Edward School as a child in the first and second grade. After second grade, she left St. Edward to be homeschooled. She re-joined St. Edward community in the summer of 2013 when she was hired as the part-time Youth Director. Besides youth ministry, Karen has been or is currently involved in the following ministries: Lectoring, being a Eucharistic Minister, being a RCIA sponsor and singing in the choir.
She graduated from Franciscan University in Steubenville, OH in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Catechetics. From 2009-2013, she volunteered as a Core Team Member with the Youth Group at St. Stephen Catholic Community in Old Hickory, TN. In addition to working part-time at St. Edward, Karen has had to two full-time employments. From 2011-2014 she worked at Computer Science Corporation and from 2014 until the present she works at Tennessee Employees Credit Union.
Her Catholic faith has always played an important role in her life, but it took on a more significance role in high school. Growing up in the “Bible Belt,” she had many great Protestant friends who had questions or misunderstandings about the Catholic faith. This sparked a desire to understand her faith better. Since then, Karen has enjoyed learning more about her Catholic faith and sharing what she has learned. In the Catholic Church, Karen has found inherent beauty, the fullness of truth and the love of Christ. It is her desire to help others find that same beauty, truth and love through the Catholic Church.
You can call on Karen if you are interested in volunteering with either the middle school or high school youth ministries. You may also contact Karen if you have a child(ren) who would like to participate in either the middle school or high school youth group programs which include preparation for any sacraments that your child may need to receive.
Outside of youth ministry or working, Karen enjoys time with her friends and family, praying, working-out, reading or watching entirely too much Netflix.
