The Saint Edward Crest

stedwardlogo2016-crestThe Shield

Saint Paul bids us to put on the armor of God and “In all circumstances, hold faith as a shield” (Ephesians 6:16). The Catholic Christian faith is central to our mission here at Saint Edward, and it is that faith that is a shield to all of the assaults and wiles of the world. The shield also represents our patron, Saint Edward, who defended England and the faith in the 11th century.

The Cross

The cross has been a central symbol of the Christian faith since the beginning. It is in the cross that Christ won our salvation and stands at the center of the paschal mystery. The Cross of the Lord stands revealed as the Tree of Life.

The Eucharist

The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. It is at the center of all we do here at Saint Edward.

The Crown

The crown represents our patron, Saint Edward the Confessor, the 11th century king of England whose virtues of simplicity, gentleness, lowliness, but above all his angelic purity were an example to his people. The crown also reminds us of our royal heritage through the gift of baptism, where we enter into the threefold mission of Christ as priest, prophet and king.

The Mortarboard

The mortarboard, the recognizable academic hat and tassel, represents the constant commitment to academic excellence here at Saint Edward School.
